Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing technical support to our customers, the outside sales team, and internal staff. This position is responsible for developing new customers and new products. During travel to customer sites, you will be working with development engineers on leading edge designs and presenting Johanson capabilities both 1-on-1 and to large groups of design engineers. You will also be tasked with technical marketing of the entire product offering, seeking new design wins for existing products and influencing customer’s new product development team to select Johanson products that are appropriate.
The primary objectives are:
  1. To maximize Johanson’s market share by driving new design-wins by providing excellent technical support for our products and the applications our customers are pursuing.
  2. To act as the primary technical contact for customers who are seeking a custom product
  3. Develop long term relationships with engineers at IC makers supporting Reference Design activity and positioning Johanson for design wins on reference designs.
  4. Understand the technical merits of each of the company product lines and how to maximize those in the PCB design
  5. To providing technical training and support to our Sales Managers, Representatives, and Distributors.
Essential Functions
  • Provide customers with solutions to new and existing designs using Johanson’s complete line of products.
  • Presenting Johanson products and capabilities to small (1-on-1) and large groups of engineers.
  • Introducing ideas for developing new products and technologies based on specific customer demands.
  • Visits customers to achieve design-ins, as needed and upon request by the customer of sales team.
  • Participates in industry tradeshows which may require booth-duty.
  • Supporting marketing in the development of new or in the updating of sales tools.
  • Assists in gaining customers’ approvals on BOMs and AVLs.
  • Establishes, maintains, and/or strengthens relationships with customer design engineering staff.
  • Provides timely response to technical inquiries.
  • Issues trip reports from customer visits and conferences.
  • Create and submit technical, application-based, articles for publication in technical trade magazines.
  • Instructs Sales Rep's on product promotion strategies, utilization of sales tools, and product features.
  • Some bench testing, RF and other may be required.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position
    • Has no direct report.
    • Is responsible for test troubleshooting and production training.
    • Requires the creation of detailed written procedures explaining various processes and then the subsequent training of personnel per these procedures.
Responsibility for Confidentiality
This position requires confidentiality; the company has many Non-Disclosure Agreements with customers who require confidentiality and occasionally Applications Engineering will work with ITAR controlled documents. As such, US citizenship or permanent resident status is required.
Work Environment
This job operates in a standard office environment and occasionally provides factory support. 20% of the time or more, Applications Engineers are traveling, both domestic and international, to visit customers. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers on a daily basis.

Position Type/Expected hours of work
This is a full-time exempt position. Forty or more (40+) hours within a workweek.
Travel
This position requires 20 to 30% travel both domestic and international.
Required Education and Experience
  • BSEE, Electrical Engineering degree with some RF required; MSEE preferred.
  • 2+ years' engineering experience with 1+ years’ in passive or active electronic components is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electronics’ industry and products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at the sales and customer level.
  • Strong technical writing ability.
  • Developed judgment, creative problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated time management skills to accomplish short- and long-term assignments
  • Adaptive to dynamic market conditions and customer needs
  • Circuit board layout knowledge
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analysis and problem solving skills
