Johanson Receives Recognition from Cal/OSHA
Johanson has been recognized by the Cal/OSHA Consultation Service for its effort in implementing and maintaining an effective injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) during the Cal/OSHA visit in June 29, 2016. The "Golden Gate Recognition" by Cal/OSHA was developed to provide motivation and support to employers who proactively work with their employees and Cal/OSHA Consultation Service. We are pleased by their recognition and continually strive to improve workplace safety.

New Release! Resistor Power Thin Film - RHF Series
Johanson is excited to announce our new Power Thin Film Resistor RHF Series. This new addition to JDIs Resistor Product family features a wide range of resistance values from 0.01 Ohm to 51K Ohms, a TCR of up to 50 ppm/C, and a compact TO-263 housing (D Pak) which makes it suitable for high-density PCB installation. This series provides 35 Watts dissipation when used with a heatsink and 2 Watts with a simple solder pad.

X2Y® A4WP Solution Points
Johanson's X2Y® components are actively solving severe EMC problems inherent to both A4WP and Qi wireless charging systems. While reducing EMC, X2Y filtering improves the charging efficiency by removing series inductive elements that add to system losses. Johanson is excited to introduce our new product line - Precision and Power Resistors! This new, high power and ultra-high precision (up to 0.01%) resistor line increases JDI's product breadth for designers of power electronics. This new offering is focused on power electronics for industrial, aerospace, medical, telecom and instrumentation markets. Some of the key features and typical applications for each series are as follows: - RWP's ultra-tight tolerance (to 0.005%) is ideal for circuit designs where precise resistances are required. - RWH and RWC both offer excellent pulse handling performance making them ideal for industrial applications such as braking systems. - RKS presents a special high temperature version to 300°C, ideal for military electronics and harsh environment sensors. - RHX is our high power, low inductance (at <10nH and <50nH) series which is good for power inverters, display heaters and more. - RNP is great for test equipment for its low TCR to ± 5ppm/°C. - And finally, our current sense offering RMC and RNC are ideal for power electronic circuits that need precision current-sensing capability. Johanson EMI Suppression Filter Chips feature X2Y's proven, pantented low noise architecture and are one of the most effective EMC filters available on the market today. Features include ultra-low ESL for an ultra-wide filter stop-band, and tightly matched impedance for very low noise-mode conversion. JDI Announces an Expanded Range of UL/TUV Certified Safety Caps
ULITUV safety cap offerings from Johanson now have been expanded. Additions include a new case size 1812/S43 and a NPO version of our 2220/S47 package. Similar to the balance of our Safety Capacitor line, these are ideal for providing line to line or line to ground transient protection for lighting, power supply, modem, and many other applications. SPICE Models Released for X2Y EMI Filters and Power Bypass Products
Johanson Dielectrics is pleased to announce the release of SPICE models for its X2Y series of components. This release contains specific SPICE models for both components when used in EMI Filtering or Power Bypass applications, and two illustrative explanations. SPICE models allow circuit designers to run circuit simulations prior to actual production of hardware, which is a frequent request amongst circuit designers. It should be noted that SPICE models do not model EMI performance as this requires highly specialized EMC simulators. Click Here to download the models.
MIL-PRF-49470 Caps Now Available from Johanson
Johanson is now approved to produce MIL-PRF-49470 series stacked capacitors. We are approved for Case Sizes 3, 4, and 5 in 500V rating. MIL-PRF-49470 approval is often required by the larger MIL OEMs to participate in their capacitor buy even when they don't specifically purchase 49470 caps. This approval should be a door opener at accounts such as BAE, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, Raytheon and other major players in the MIL markets. Click here for more on Stacked Capacitors
CapStrate® designs for Voltage Multiplier Applications
JDI CapStrate® technology is being used to miniaturize VM circuits and to improve robustness for harsh environments by incorporating all the capacitors into the substrate. Applications range from Military to commercial, from Night Vision goggles to electrostatic paint sprayers. New Planar and Discoidal Market Opportunities
Historically, planar arrays and discoidal caps were used by few accounts and exclusively in flltered connectors and discrete EMI filter apps. Recently, we discovered other uses and are eager to expand our sales into these new markets and are opening this up to the reps for any new customers that are secured. Kulite, for example, uses the planars as signal filters and the planars are designed to match the pin out of the transducer. Kavlico uses our discoidals in automotive sensors. MLC Caps for C.O.T.S. Applications
Commercial Off The Shelf applications in military and commercial aviation applications are growing rapidly to address cost and lead-time issues. The name is a misnomer, as the parts are not generic commercial nor are they off the shelf.
Johanson Dielectrics, Inc. offers a broad selection of through-hole MLC capacitors for a wide variety of C.O.T.S. applications. Available in both NPO Class I and X7R Class II dielectrics, and in sizes C-V multiples not covered by DLA drawings. With three different test plans available, MIL, HIREL, and Space programs can be supported:
MIL Testing: DLA (DSCC) Group A- 100% Thermal shock, burn in, parametric testing, C of C
HIREL Testing (MIL testing above plus): Sample DPA per EIA-469, PDA of 10% for Group A
Space Level Testing (HIREL testing above plus): 100% non-destructive testing using C-SAM; PDA of 8% for Group A; Group B test Low voltage humidity test per MIL-PRF-123.
NPO CapStrates for Pulse Discharge and Detonator Applications
Johanson Dielectrics announces expansion of CapStrate technology to serve standard and high temperature detonators and pulse capacitors utilizing NPO dielectrics. This platform will allow use in high voltage high inrush current applications such as those previously served by NTC ceramic formulations or film caps. Although NTC capacitors have higher effective capacitance at room temperature and with no bias voltage, NPO proves a formidable competitor at 200C and with full DC bias at high voltage. NPO performance remains virtually flat with temperature and bias changes. Our CapStrate family of products allows JDI to tailor solutions to challenging shapes and form factors, with Voltage capabilities up to 5kV and beyond. Circular or other planar shapes to fit specific applications are encouraged.
SMPS MLC Caps for Film Cap Replacements
Commercial Off The Shelf applications in military and commercial aviation often employ film caps for AC power applications. NPO dielectric MLCCs are a very viable alternative. They offer more capacitance or higher DWV ratings in a fixed footprint. MLCC construction yields superior resistance to heat in soldering and assembly operations. They are also not subject to moisture degradation often plaguing SMT film cap construction.
JDI offers a broad selection of NPO devices in SMT DIP style lead frame or wire radial leads to fit most applications.
New High Temperature Silicone Coating for SMPS and Radial Leaded products
Johanson Dielectrics announces a new option for coating stacked SMPS caps and radial leaded parts. Higher reflow temperatures associated with some RoHS compliant solders have generated issues for some customers who select clear epoxy coating. This popular option facilitates post assembly board cleaning and protects the capacitor from certain environmental contaminants. For customers using hotter reflow profiles for lead-free solders, we now offer a 200C capable clear silicone coating.
