The shelf Life of ceramic capacitors depends on the storage conditions and the method of packaging the parts. Capacitor terminations will slowly oxidize over time leading to a degradation of the solderability of the device. Therefore JDI recommends that ceramic capacitors should be used within 1 year of receipt. For Pd/Ag termination six months is recommended. Parts packaged on tape and reel should be used in a first in first out (FIFO) basis. The reels should be stored away from direct sunlight. The parts should not be removed from their original packaging until they are ready to be used. Any unused product should be repackaged and sealed as soon as possible. The following precautions should be recognized.

  • Parts should be stored indoors in their original container
  • Temperature should be maintained between 5 to 40 °C
  • Relative humidity should be maintained between 20 and 70%
  • Do not store in a corrosive environment where salt, chloride gas, alkali or any acids are present.
